Jeddah is one of the oldest cities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and is a hustle-bustle city of seafarers, heavy industry and busy pilgrimage hub as it is the nearest city to Mecca.
I met an artist who lives there, Abu Al Enain, and have had the pleasure to paint in his studio. His art is wonderfully pseudo-abstract (typical Arabic art) but of real objects or people. He has a permanent exhibition at the Radisson Hotel in Jeddah.
I painted this scene in soft pastel of the old town from a photograph I took. In this region with the heat, the traffic and the police it is hard to paint on location, but I think the scene shows the quiteness of the street, a complete contrast to the shiny glass soul-less architecture not too far away!
The Original is part of my private collection and not for sale.
