A fine sunny morning at Dartington Hall one September day in 2012, time as per the clock, just after 10; notice the reflections of the cherry tree in the arch windows and the long shadow from the tree on the left.
I painted in soft pastel on a Canson Mi-Teintes textured beige paper to give an underlying summer warmth.
I worked on site (in the corner of the courtyard nearest the Barn Cinema) and from a photograph taken at the same time so I could capture the light, reflections and shadows; in total the painting period stretched 3 weeks.
